Hello ��

Firstly all the wires are numbered. Secondly the numbers don't necessarily tally with the pins on the trailer socket. They refer to there position in the Volvo multi plug. Just follow the instructions. I had similar on an older car and had 3 wire that were taped up. I did connect them up though in the end as Volvo in their wisdom omitted the fridge feed in their earlier configurations. I had one positive and 2 earths spare, I just ran a fused supply from the battery to connect up the fridge feed.

Pin 12 you won't need as it for a trailer sense. Pin 10 will need a fused live and ignition live through a relay if you want your fridge feed to cool your beer while towing.

So its possible I just need the thing software enabled from Volvo. When i bought the wiring from the guy at the volvo dealership I asked him about the software update and he said he didn't think i would need it for just a trailer.

Thats why i was expecting the thing to work.

Also it says in the instructions about the trm 40a fuse. Don't use it. Whats the purpose of this.

I have the long 40a fuse installed in the correct position in the engine bay but I'm left with a shorter 40a fuse...

Not sure on the fuse as this isn't a model I'm familiar with. The software update generally just cuts the rear fog light and disables reversing sensors while coupled up. But again not sure on this model as canbus will be different to my experience. I would follow the instructions relate to your model.

So your saying it should possibly work to some extent without the need for an update, i don't have reversing sensors...

Aidy,

A software upgrade may include Trailer Stability Control? It uses the cars ABS system to counteract snaking. It may be worthwhile enquiring before discounting the upgrade.

aidy yes should work without the update but as above it can also work with the DSTC while towing. Have you asked the dealer what effect the update has?

What is the difference between pin 5, 7 and 8 on the 13 pin plug. Rear position lamp and left running light. And pin 8 being tail lamp just complicates things further..???

Hi aidy55,

Pin 5 is Right Taillight
Pin 7 is Left Taillight
Pin 8 is Reversing lights if fitted (On Caravan they are fitted but might not be on normal Trailer)

While on this subject:

Has anyone worked out and made a note of the colours of the wires that go into each if the Sockets on a Volvo 13Pin Socket & Loom connector please, that they are willing to share?

I would point out that the Volvo 13 Pin Socket has a compound around the wires that cannot be removed making identification slightly difficult!

The wiring diagram that Volvo supply for the 13 Pin Socket only shows White Wires, while the 7 pin diagram shows the colour code of the wires to sockets.
