Hi Mick,
Not sure if you misread the post as it refers to the 13Pin Plug & Socket as fitted by Volvo and not the Double 7 which you use with an adapter.

Having said that I was able to get the colours for the 13 Pin Socket from an Auto Electrician which allowed me to fit a new Socket onto the back of the tow bar and the 'problem' that I had has been 'cured'.

So much for Volvo Technical Support as 3 Volvo Garages told me the problem was the Caravan Lights while in fact it was the 13 Pin Socket on the Tow Bar.

Point of interest.
My handbook refers to the trailer symbol on the dash for the indicators but when I had the towbar and wireing fitted on purchase of the car found no trailer symbol working on the dash. After number of phone calls to dealer who contacted Volvo technical resources it transpired that Volvo did away with the trailer symbol on the dash and now the system sences when a trailer is connected and if any indicator lamp fails be it on the car or trailer, the dash repeater will flash faster.
This may also be part of the softwear upgrade when fitting the towing electrics.
This was on a MY10 car purchased in 2014.

Paul.

I am going to investigate the 13 pin socket. I am pretty sure its not right even though it came prewired.

It is insulated but I'm sure i can get into ok without breakage...

The tail lights must be on two separate cables, i am getting continuity on only one..

And the brake pin number 6 on the socket is giving me continuity on two wires inside the boot...

On the block connector pin 3 and 5 state ground and power supply respectively but i have no pins in either as the ground is in the terminal under the tail lamp in step 35 and power supply, is in the wiring harness that was already in the car..

The fact that I'm not getting indicators, brake lights or fog or reverse, maybe that indicates that a software update is required as if there was just an issue with the tails then i would get something on my trailer lights would i not...

Default Software required

I recently fitted a tow bar to my 11reg V50 D3 using the Volvo 13 pin harness and trailer module. Before the software was updated the only response I got from a trailer board was both indicators lighting up when I pressed the brake. Nothing else worked.

The software download sorted everything out.

Did you wire it yourself. Was your cables all white and not colour coded like the instructions?

On pin 5 and 7 on the prewired 13 pin socket were you getting continuity on the same wire inside the car. Pin 5 and 7 is for the left and right tail lights so can't understand why only 1 wire is beeping...

Yes, it was colour coded. I got it from Rufe, part No. 31414907 along with the tow bar control module, Part No. 31407108. 13 pin socket was pre wired to cable and well sealed.

When it wouldn't work I re checked I had all the correct colours in the correct places for the TRM plug and metered through from the 13 pin socket, I think if I remember correctly, the only pins linked were the grounds.

Thanks for your reply. I am going back to Volvo on Monday and at least I can tell them I spoke to someone who did in fact get a colour coded kit.

What do you mean by the only pins linked were grounds..??

In the 13 pin socket pins 3,11 and 13 are all labelled Ground. Only one goes to the trailer module. The other 2, if I remember correctly, were joined in the socket and terminated in a ring that is grounded to the car body.
These are the instructions I found http://accessories.volvocars.com/en-...2012/D3/Manual

Hope that helps
