Just wondering, am interested in the big roof rack, the problem is I have a car with roof rails, it wouldn't fit over them would it by any chance?

I don't have a 940 or access to one anymore I'm afraid. The car it was on didn't have roof rails on.

I've just measured it.

The clamps have a bit that goes IN the gutter, and a bit that goes UNDER the gutter. From the upper face of the bit that goes under the gutter to the underside of the cross bars is about 5.75 inches. That's five and three daughters. So if the underside face of the gutter to the top of the roof rail is less than that it should go on. The clamps come in a little bit, but probably not enough to get in the way.

Best thing would be to try it, but I see you're in Cambridge, so a bit of a long way to come if it doesn't fit.

I've just googled 'Volvo 940 full length roof rack' and found a picture of a 940 with rails plus a full length roof rack that's similar BUT NOT IDENTICAL to mine.

So it might, might not. It's on ebay now.

Fair enough, I'll go measure up when I get a chance but actually sounds like it might fit.

Just seen the same pictures as you with the rails and rack, I am based in cambridge but I drive all around the place so there is a possibility I might be able to get up to Leeds but not sure when yet so can't purchase the rack just yet.

Thanks for the help, if I do end up going near Leeds and the rack is still available I'll try pop in and see if it fits but not near enough for now unfortunately.

This info. might help: Mikeymo's roof rack is alloy and I used one on my 940; tried it on a friends' 240, but it wouldn't fit.

The rack favoured by builders and myself (gardener, beekeeper) is made by SDV Roofracks in Clitheroe, Lancashire, and is heavy-duty galvanised steel.
