Default Volvo 940 windscreen

Is the windscreen the same for saloon and estate on the 940? My estates got a crack in it and there's a saloon being broken for parts not too far from me. TIA👍

If you mean the front windscreen then yes, if you mean the rear one then no.

What Jim said ^^^^^

If memory serves, the screens are bonded and bitter experience tells me bonded screens are notoriously difficult to remove in one piece.

You might be better checking your car insurance, even TPF&T have glass cover on some policies where you just pay an excess and the nice man comes along with a new screen, an hour or so later you have a screeen that will pass the MoT and you can see out of again.

I know some scrapyards insist on payment up front if you plan on removing bonded windscreens yourself, mainly becaus they so rarely come out in one piece.

From what i remember of a weird little law that applies to insurance of all kinds, they can't provide "less" than you are covered for when it's a "like-for-like" replacement - which is exactly what windscreen cover is.

In other words, if you had a top tint before the replacement, you must still have one after. If you had a plain screen before and you're given a top tint, that's acceptable as it's seen as an improvement. Likewise, if it didn't have tinted glass and they give a tinted screen, that's also an improvement.

Stand your ground for the top tint!

Hmmm............ pushing it a bit to insist on a Volvo one.

Especially as they get them from someone like Saint Gobain, Triplex, Pilkington or whoever.

Speaking of Pilkington, i'm sure it was them in a documentary i once saw and they proudly boasted they kept all the bucks from every screen they had ever produced so making one-offs for rare cars wasn't a problem - worth mentioning to the insurers!
