50 to 100lbs is only 25-50kg, most of the time you'll be aiming for 50 rather than 25kg

Hi,
The 940/960/90 max nose weight is 75Kg as far as I remember... Will have to check the manual for that... Des. . . EDIT: Checked my 940 and V90 owner manuals and max nose weight is 50Kg up to 1200kg trailer/van. 75Kg for anything over 1200Kg..

Ditto
Yes, more like 150 lb than 75 lb. No wonder "if I can only just lift it it's about right" works for me.

Nivomats every time for me. They carry 1250K no problem and they keep it very stable. They only take about a mile to lift up. Anything you pump up with air is going to be springy whereas the nivomats use oil to lift it up. Hence it is more stable.

Monroe Ride Levellers
The back end was down on my Volvo V70 estate TDI 1999, so I fitted Monroe Road levellers 159 pounds from proven products which I have fitted, but the back end is still down when caravaning. My next plan is to fit new springs which Proven Products say Are made by Leisure Products (oe) but I can get stiffer springs part No. LF4295822 at 49 pounds each plus 10 pounds postage. Is there any comment on best spring type.

Shocks
I think people are really not getting it.
If you have Nivos and they are working right, they "self pump" from suspension motion. Within a mile you will be level. Not a bit sagged. Level. That's level. I've been dragging my new wardo with teh old 740GLT this weekend. The van is an ABI Airstream Ace and it's a bit bigger than my very old Luna - but the point is I have not got a bracked for the Bulldog on that towbar yet, but it was totally waggle free up to a (mumble mmble, was I really officer) velocity, and despite the greater size of the van I am having troublgegeting the nose weight high enough - so it ought to ahve been all over the place. But it wasn't. Nivos every time for me, money permitting. |

Talking to my Dad over the weekend he chucked in another bit to this discussion; that there is a guidance of 7% of the van's weight is to be the noseweight, as long as it doesn't exceed the manufacturers recommendation.
Nivo's do self pump, and Roger mentioning that reminded of my dad's tendancy to drive "round the block" to get the suspension pumped up before attempting to get the 'van up the drive (a T5 scrabbled and took half an hour to get up there once as it got stuck on the gravel, and the slope onto the road over the pavement would scalp a jockey wheel) Also gave the engine a chance to warm up properly with minimal strain.

Monroes or Nivomat. Done this one.
if you've no load levelling and you want it on the cheap, Monroe. But don't bother swapping out one iffy Nivomat for a Monroe. Dig deep and get a single Nivomat. Nivomats offer a better more planted feel on my V70. Monroes were bouncy and a faff to set-up if you're flipping loading. Nivomat every time, all day and every day. But they are dear. If you understand hwo they work, and why you'll feel a bit better about he price. Look after the boots. They crumble then dirt gets in and mashes the shocker. Which at the price of the things hurts. Mini Universal steering rack gaiters can be cobbled to fit.
