engine and box req
Any cc but needs to be complete, to go into a Morris Minor. Overdrive and a prop would be nice!

That's a heavy old lump for a Minor unless you are doing away with the torsion bars?
Will need a bulkhead modification too or will handle like c*#p if you mount it too far forward if the one's fitted with BMC B-series lumps are anything to go by. I drive a 62 Minor as my daily and the A series 1275 and Ford 5 speed are more than enough fun for daily use!

A 1275 with a type 9 would be ideal but are hard to come by nowadays, for a decent price anyway. Do you think it would be too big? I thought the size difference would't be too large.

Its a lot longer block than the A-series which sits tight to the bulkhead anyway and having spoken to a few owners of Minor's with the B-series engines they have commented that the handling is affected by the extra weight hanging over the front axle.
Some have fitted Marina commercial torsion bars (mod required) to help overcome the extra weight but finding a pair of them is probably harder than finding a cheap 1275 lump! They do come up on ebay for under £200 for an unknown engine that you may get lucky with (seen 2 in the last week on Buy it now's for less than £150). This one says 1000cc but is actually a 1275 and sold for less than its £100 asking price! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Austin-Mor...0AAOSw9mFWHguN Can't find the other one I saw though.... Maestro engine's can also be made to fit but need a lot more messing around than is really worth it!

I don't fancy swapping torsion bars for a heavier engine, part of the Minors lovely handling is it's well positioned, light engine. Looks like i'll knock the Volvo idea on the head.
I have been offered a 1200 Datsun A series engine and box, which I may go for... The Datsun engine is an imporved "clone" of the Austin engine although no parts are interchangeable. They are are built with closer tolerances and better castings e.t.c. Either way, I don't fancy using the original 948cc engine as a daily driver on dual carriageways e.t.c

The Datsun 1200 is the popular choice in Australia with most of their Minors now running with them. The availability of the engines over here is the limiting factor now, but if you have been offered one then great!
I started a Datsun conversion in a Minor Pick up many years ago and had loads of clearance issues before I realised the 1500 unit I was using was a longer block than the 1200 I should have chosen!

Ahhh, so it's best to use either the 1200 or 1400? I'm told they share the same block and rev harder than the 1500's
