Default Separate new XC40 (and V40) Forum needed?

Went to see the new XC40 at my local dealer's launch event last night. They had two First Edition cars in white with a black roof and very attractive they were too. I'm itching to try out the new 3 cylinder T3 when it arrives later this year and likely to be looking at a Momentum Pro T3/T4 although I'd like to see an Inscription before deciding.

Since these cars are based on a completely new and different platform to the XC60/XC90 et al, isn't there a need for a separate forum area?

I agree.

Also popped in today to have a look. Very nice car. Not as luxurious in some of the materials used as the new XC60 (but on a par with the previous model).

Just slightly too small for my needs. Very similar inside to a RR Evoque, although the boot is bigger than the RR.

Looks good in all three colours I saw (Bursting Blue, Crystal White and Flaming Red). Should sell very well.

Raised this "back in the day" but we've not had an update on where it got to.

I think this spa forum is over busy as it is so adding another model to it will be too much.

I still think its better to even separate the SPA forum into separate sub-forums for XC90, XC60, S90, V90.

Personally, I am an XC90 owner, and have no interest in the other models. But I still have to wade through the forum, ignoring the posts for non-XC90 models.

Don’t agree with that, most of the technology is shared by all the vehicles. So a problem on xc60 senses, could be the same on a Xc90.

Likewise, the XC60 & XC90 are BOTH built on the same platform at the same factory and share the same Powertrains, etc.

BUT, I do think we should encourage members of this forum to use their "signature" to at least tell the reader what Volvo Model they are writing about on the forum.

This is my opinion too, as although there are many commonalities between SPA cars there are also significant differences. But the main reason for me is around how ‘busy’ the forum will get if there are X40, V60, XC60, S90, V90, XC90 (and presumably soon S60, V40 and Polestar) model owners all using one forum - how quickly will threads get pushed off the first couple of pages so suddenly it’s hard to find anything.

Add in the fact that people rarely ever search before posting a question then the forum will be swamped.

Moan over !

In fact, Swedespeed seems to manage well with the different models split out...

But underneath the skin they are mostly the same car, from V60 to XC90 currently,
There's very little difference in the XC40 either, but it is obviously a different platform.

I was at a launch event too but rather disappointed that the prize draw was delayed or had some technical glitch. I was looking forward to winning the car, if not the speaker.

As far as the XC40 goes, they are onto another winner, no doubt about it. What surprised me was how roomy it is inside, with plenty of rear legroom and tons of space under the front seats for rear passenger's feet. All without compromising the boot space.

It will be interesting to hear how quiet it is. One other thing that struck me was that it only had a single conventional engine bulkhead as opposed to the two in my 90 series. That will surely adversely effect cabin refinement compared to the larger platform cars.
