Again car went back but after leaving car all day they said a Volvo approved inspector needs to inspect it before we can authorise replacement of all the parts needed via extended warranty and it will take 4 days work. Talk of a full cylinder head replacement. The mechanic said they’ve had dozens of xc60s back for the same thing and Volvo have still not issued a full recall/replacement policy. All very annoying.

very concerning, is this problem related to the EGR issue ?

To be specific, MY14.5 (VEA) commenced manufacture week 46 2013.

I ordered my VEA XC60 in Autumn 2013 just as it became available to order in the UK. My car was delivered in early Feb 2014 and I'm fairly sure it was the first or one of the first at my dealer. I doubt there were any VEA engines in the UK until early 2014.

week 46 of 2013 started in 11 Nov. If your car was manufactured after that date you will have the VEA engine on a FWD car. If you have a FWD that is before that date you have a 5 cylinder engine. If it is AWD then it is 5 cylinder.

So count the number of cylinders, that is the easy way to know if you have a VEA engine. All 5 cylinders are variants of the same engine.

From the Volvo UK website.

What is model year?
We do several model year updates every year. Each new update comes with a specific model year code that you will find at the back of your Owner’s Manual. The code is written as ATXXXX, for example AT1446.

So AT1346 will be VEA MY14.5.

Default Latest update on possible extended warranty to EGR system?

I now have the EGR Check light on for about the 4th time since acquiring my 2014 D4 XC60 in 2015. Needless to say it's now out of the Volvo warranty.

I phoned Taggart Volvo and Voltech (independent Volvo shop) in Glasgow to discuss, having seen on here the problems caused by this design 'feature'. Paul at Voltech told me that Volvo had extended the warranty on the EGR system but that the work had to be undertaken by the main dealer. So I got back on to Taggart and booked the car in, though, as you might expect, they claimed no knowledge of this extended warranty but would be happy to look at it (at £95ph).

So - can anybody fill me in on the latest stance Volvo is taking on this? Have they extended the warranty or not, and if they have, how do I go about getting them to honour that?

If your EGR/ Check Engine light has been on before then there should be a record/history of this or did you not get it investigated before?

You need to ask your Volvo dealer for a printout of the 'service actions'. This will tell you which parts (EGR cooler, EGR valve) are covered (or not) and to what date / mileage. This coverage is independent of any extended warranty.
