This is the 1980 car I mentioned at the start of the thread, one possible contender: https://www.gumtree.com/p/volvo/1980...on-/1380007346

To be honest I don’t terribly mind the mismatch between the front end (circular lights) and the rear light clusters from later models. I’m not desperately concerned with purity, and the conversion to circular light seems to have been done tastefully. Plus the brown on brown colour is superb.

Is this car known to anyone in the club/forum, and any thoughts on the price?

Also, does anyone have advice for best rust prevention tips, considering the car would be parked outside (I no longer have the garage space I used to rent)?

That looks like a perfectly nice car, I don't know it myself (but someone here probably does). From the photos it looks quite rust free, but that would need some checking up close.

£3000 is probably more than I'd have wanted to pay (but then I'm a tightwad) but certainly less than similar cars I've seen advertised, so it is probably a fair price. The car should appreciate a bit from next year when it becomes an historic vehicle.

Your Feb ‘75 244 DL must be one of the oldest in the UK? I wish I had been looking for one a while back when this appeared: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C967168. I would’ve snapped it up!
The '75 244 was indeed an early car, 'Clough89'. Following a number of 1 series cars, it felt more like an update or evolution of that model than a completely new model in it's own right.

It also rusted badly! Both front wings corroded along the top - something that I did not experience on the earlier cars and surprising on a Volvo. Whether that was down to the lack of wing liners or possibly inferior steel, I don't know.

Regards, John.
