V40 bifuel and no temperature gauge.
My electric fan that cools the rad on my 2002 bi-fuel is not cutting in. I'm driving with the heater full on in the hope of dumping xs heat from engine. There's no temperature warning light shown in the instruction manual for the bifuel and no temperature gauge. Is there one?
Also when I got home after 40 mile trip the top hose was hot and bottom cold. Is this the thermostat not opening or something more technical? TIA |

Is the engine actually reaching a temperature that would cause the fan to come on?
The fans don't run if the engine is cool enough... are you sure it's getting hot enough?

I did the trip mid morning today and was pleasantly warm here. I had the heater running full fan speed and could hardly bare my hand on the outlet on right of steering wheel.
Bottom rad hose was cold. |

That does not mean the engine was overheating.
Normal diesel operating temperature is 90°C, petrol about 100°C to 110°C. How hot was the coolant?

This is the problem with no temp gauge or warning light then I don't know the temp of the coolant . The heater was blowing hot though. A 40 mile trip in this weather midday I would not have expected the bottom rad hose to be cold to touch and the top one hot.
Are other petrol V40s running around in this weather long journeys with the bottom rad hose cold or is it just mine? I'm a bit wary of going on a long run for fear of overheating. Do you know if there's a temp gauge on a bi-fuel V40? I would be reassured if I could find one. I've posted this on the V40 forum too as not many looking in here these days. I wired in a permanent Scangauge to the dash for precisely this reason. Gives four extra gauges, of which one can be temp. First look to the thermostat.
