Tailgate Power Struts?

On my XC60 2012 one of the power struts broke, internal Spring broke into many bits, This was the plastic sleeve version.
Got hold of a pair of later all metal ones 31455987 very similar, But the cable has a male plug (same type of plug) the one that broke had a female plug.
Can the later struts be fitted to a 2012 car, is there a factory adapter lead/cable? as it has the same number of wires

Hi,
Did you get anywhere with fitting the later version? The spring has just appeared out of the sleeve on one of mine.......
