Default V70 tailgate gas strut replacement.

After 19 years, the tailgate gas struts are getting very tired on my V70. They just about cope in the summer but are useless in the winter.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to any preferred makes or any best avoided?

Many thanks

Martin

Default Tailgate Strut Replacement

I bought a pair on ebay last year from a seller who specialises in struts. They sent the wrong ones first time but immediately sent a correct pair without wanting the wrong ones back.

Don't think there was any particular brand that I recognised but seem to be working well (no headaches now).

Cannot find their name now but what I am saying is not to worry too much about the branding, just buy from a reputable source.

I can't help with a specific brand but be careful if buying off eBay. I bought some that were starting to fail again after 2 years despite their lifetime guarantee.

They were about £20 - £25 so I guess you get what you pay for.

Hi, I also bought off ebay for about £15.00. Within a year the tailgate wouldn't stay up. Turns out mine were made in China. Seller offered replacement but I declined and purchased a pair costing £25.00 and these are fine. Original Volvo ones would be best but I think they are expensive.

I purchased mine from All German Parts http://www.allgermanparts.co.uk/ for my V70 back in February. Cost £60 for the pair delivered next day via courier. Early days, but the tailgate is held in place even on slopes.

2 good ones in the V70 I'm breaking if interested, my only complaint is the tailgate nearly hits you a smack in the mouth if you don't catch it when opening lol

I've bought a few parts from a shop called partsmonster on ebay. Got my tailgate struts from there and the boot literally bursts open. Only had them on since summer so no idea how long lived they'll be but the parts from there seem really good.

Well they lasted just over a year, which for £60 you would have expected more. I've replaced them with a set from e-bay at £3.85 for the pair - even if they only last another year I won't grumble given the cost.
