Last time I spoke to Rob Lang at Lookers in Colchester, they had two T5's on order.....

Regarding which engine to choose from....well, its not a simple "no brainer", at least not to me. Never mind all the hype about Diesels etc going on at the moment. The truth is, the T5 (we have one) is a fantastic piece of engineering from Volvo. Its great on fuel when cruising. Said it many times and can't say it enough. Fine, so its £50 a month more and fuel will be a bit more over the years, but you won't have a "clattery" diesel (the D4 is far from clattery btw, actually rather refined but still not a patch on the refinement of the T5) but you will have SO much more fun while driving the T5!

Plus if one would compare the T5 to a diesel it should be the D5 (as long as its the new 4-cyl one).

My verdict, have fun. Enjoy life and go for the T5. You will not regret it!

Good input. Can you let me know what sort of fuel consumption you get on a steady 70ish motorway run please.

Thanks

Thanks!

Sure, had to look at some old threads to remember what it was (the T5 is my wifes car)....but i wrote like this:

40+ is possible on a cruise at a relaxed 70-75.

Another one I wrote:

Did 340 miles (going to the UK) at 70-95 and avg was 32mpg (not hanging about).

Another guy on here has also a T5 and reported his avg at 41.2mpg after 550 miles in the UK.

Quite good numbers considering the size and height of the XC60.

Wow - That's about the same as I'm getting from a Mercedes E250Cdi diesel. Wonder what the D4 does!!

If what you are quoting are genuine mpg figures I will definitely be considering a T5 for my next XC60 . My D5 only averages 36mpg.

Dont forget thats cruising, ie taking it very easy. Use a bit of that power and the numbers change.....

Btw the 2009 D5 I had (205bhp) never did better than 32mpg! This petrol engine beats that easily!

But seriously though, a lot of people think petrol = bad for the wallet etc etc. Technology has moved on dramatically since say 2009. Even my old 780 does 32-33mpg on a long nice smooth run at 70. Not bad for a 30 yrs old (but lets not talk abot town!).

That's the problem, town or local runs, just bring the mpg down. So realistically you could expect to average about 30 mpg.

Ours does around 26-30mpg when going around the local shops etc. Not sure a diesel beats that by much though.....

As a matter of interest what are your emission levels for your T5?

Mine taken from my V5 for my 2017 V40 D2 VEA auto are CO 0.258 / Nox 0.038 / HC + Nox 0.066 / PM 0.001

About more than half less than the Euro 6 diesel limits.
Quote:
Euro 6 limits for diesel CO – 0.50 g/km HC+ NOx – 0.17 g/km NOx – 0.08 g/km PM – 0.005 g/km

Euro 6 limits for petrol CO – 1.0 g/km HC – 0.10 g/km NOx – 0.06 g/km PM – 0.005 g/km

Roy

As our T5 is regged in Germany, the reg doc is a little different than the V5. No NOx numbers are mentioned, but what is mentioned is that its a Euro 6 engine and CO2 is at 157.

The rest of the details are max weight, distance between axles etc etc. A lot of boring stuff. It also mentions that it can tow 1600kg (which is very low considering it being a Volvo!).
