Having looked at my Haynes wiring diagram, I suspect it’s the pre tensioner for the seatbelt or a connector for the sips airbags. I would of thought if it was the airbags you would have an check engine light on the dashboard.

If you have had the car for a while and know it’s history, it may of just come undone. If not, could of been in an accident and airbags may not of been replaced. I’m sure someone on here had that happen to them.

Anyway, I would disconnect the battery and leave it for a good few hours to discharge any capacitors in the firing mechanism. Plug it back in and connect battery up. I don’t think it would trigger them as I am sure it’s the seatbelt pretensioner plug but better to be safe.

Thanks

Thanks @Cameron1590

I'veonly had the car a month or so and it came with no history ....they don't seem to value that here.
I have learned after doing a govt check that the last owner had it for 9 years hence the good condition for it's age.
The driver's seat has seen some wear though, so I'm not surprised there are things hanging down underneath, havent tried the heated seats yet but it's -10c tomorrow so may give them a try.

Not quite sure what a pre-tensioner is but will look it up now!

Does the fasten seatbelt reminder work?

Oh yes works very well!

apart from issues with a selection of rear lights the electrics seem pretty good, some things working that you wouldn't expect in a 1998 car.
