XC90 3.2 Petrol Geartronic/Autobox 2006 Model
Hi, can anyone help with which make and model of gearbox Volvo installed in the six cylinder 3.2 Petrol 2006 model as mine has failed and gearbox reconditioners are saying that it is rare model which they have not seen before and they are not sure that they can get parts.

AW TF80-SC, same as the V8 and diesel from that era onwards. A very common transmission used by many global vehicle manufacturers although there are bound to be detail differences in settings. Prone to valve body problems, plenty of info online especially if you check USA which was the major 3.2 customer.

You need to find a new gearbox place I think. It's very common.
As said above it's the Aisin Warner TF80-SC that was fitted to every XC90 from 2006MY - the D5, 3.2, 4.4V8 etc. Also all Volvo/Yamaha engined V70, S60, XC60, S80 etc. And Land Rover Freelander 2 & Evoque, Jaguar X-Type, Saab 9-3 & 9-5, Alfa Romeo 159, Vauxhall Aster & Vectra, and the BMW i8.... to name a few. So not rare.

I'd be interested to know what happened to your transmission and what the symptoms were. I have a 2006/7 3.2 with over 260,000 miles on the original transmission with no hint of any issues (touch wood).

Hi, symptoms were jerking or a bang between changes 3-4,4-5 and when getting hot in stationary traffic a reluctance to engage 1st. As to what happened watch this space as the car is still off the road. We drained the fluid which was then looked at by our local g/b reconditioners in Westbury and surprisingly was quite clear even if a bit dark. They advised not to do any more at present and I believe my mechanic has replaced filters etc which they supplied and he has refilled and now I am just waiting for the steering rack (also reconditioned) and front subframe to go back on, MOT to be done and will see how it drives when I get it back on Wednesday. The car has done 170000m including three years when it towed a horse box regularily.

Mine has never towed, so that may be the difference. Fingers crossed you can get it all sorted.
