All offers of cigarettes politely declined for several hours afterwards and head feeling like it was in orbit around Mars and/or Saturn and maybe even Jupiter for good measure! I suppose being the breaker you couldn't open all doors or windows to let the fumes out either?

Right pump arrived at 1pm.
Had to cut and break off the hose clips as well rusted. Big one around locking ring ok. Got the pump and sender out after several attempts! Went out and bought new stainless steel jubilee clips. Swapped over the new pump and needed new crimp connectors which were supplied. The new seal hadn't arrived and old pump housing seal was in really good condition, so re-used due to time pressure of MOT tomorrow. Fitted the pump and sender back in after several attempts and re-screwed on the locking ring. Re connected the pump wiring harness and battery. Started it up and fired after second crank, so great except the fuel gage was showing no fuel and low fuel light on! Had around a quarter of a tank before! Decided to drive 5 miles and it stalled going around a roundabout. Thought here we go! Put £40 worth and still gage reading fumes and light on! This time though not cutting out on right turns round a roundabout! Decided to get my car valeted, so nice and clean for MOT at 13.30 pm tomorrow. Started up and fuel gage working and showing nearly 3/4 of a tank. Filled right up (£18.50) and gage now showing full. Hope that's it sorted. We'll see how it goes. Many thanks. The worst part was breaking and cutting the rusty jubilee clips without damaging the stubs! Must of took an hour on one alone, the fuel filler pipe. the one hose had enough length so just cut it off. Then once pump out used a stanley knife and slit it along the length to get it off the stub without breaking it. Hope it goes straight through the MOT like the last 3 years without advisories. I'll update! Many thanks everyone for your help, it's been invaluable. James. |
