Default V70 Aircon & Heated mirror problems

I've had my V70 about 8 weeks and have been very pleased with it. However now the damp mornings have set in I've noticed a couple of problems.

1) The aircon seems to work it gets cold or hot depending on where you set the dial. But the car steams up very easily (as if its stuck on re-circ). Anyone got any thoughts?

2) The heated mirror on the drivers side doesn't work. Can I just replace the glass and not the complete mirror case?

Any help or tips would be useful.

Thanks in advance.
Chris

Hi Chris,

Aircon - Not sure about this one. Could be a leak in the system. Are you losing any coolant?

Mirror - You MAY be able to replace just the glass. It depends where the fault lies. If it's the heater element in the glass then replacing the glass alone should fix the problem. However, it could be a fault in the wiring somewhere.

Have you got a multimeter? Remove the glass and test the connections to the mirror. It could be something simple like the connection to the back of the mirror.

If the glass is at fault I MIGHT have a spare in the next week or two because I'm replacing the mirror unit on my offside. It's heated but manual adjustment (but the manual adjustment is broken) and I'm replacing it with a heated electric unit. As the glass is heated it should work fine in yours providing you have the old shape V70.

Regards

Andy

Hi Chris,

it may be stuck in recirc mode. When you operate the recirc switch can you hear the flap motor running or the flap moving? If not then you get to the motor by removing the glove box. The recirc. motor is then infront of you just to one side of the fan mostly slotted into and hidden by the ducting, but it is accessable. A stuck recirc. motor will trigger a fault code but not necessarily show up with flashing ECC lights. Mine is slow to operate but normally from fresh air to recirc. rather than recirc to fresh.

Having said all this, it seems the commonest cause of excessive misting is a leak in the heater matrix. This is also not too onerous to change yourself. There were full instructions in a previous thread some 6 months or so ago.

Chris,

I have a spare heated mirror glass. It's a simple replacement.

I can send it to you and then you can fit it, check it works and then send me money to cover postage plus whatever you feel is reasonable. If you'd like it please let me have your address and I'll send it straight away.

I'd be grateful if you could let me know asap because someone else on this forum has also enquired and gets second refusal if you're not interested.

Regards

Andy
