RE: Daylight Headlamps
If the same as S80 you'll need a software download. About £20 from your friendly Volvo dealer

RE: Daylight Headlamps
Why on earth do you want to disable one of the safety features built in to your car?
All the best, Peter. |

RE: Daylight Headlamps
PLease people don't turn off your daylight running lights! As peter has said they are a saftey feature, it uses no extra feul to run them, and the bulbs won't blow often enough for it too be expensive.
And on top of that it means people can see you much better, you may not think it does much, but in slightly cloudy conditions, light rain etc you can see cars with headlights soooo much easier, and even in daylight you stand out more than someone without lights. As a biker I love these things as they help keep me alive as they make you extra visable - bikes spend more time looking for cars than drivers do as it is (or at least they should) so anything that helps us is great! I would never dream of turning off my daylight running lights on my 440, and even turn my lights on when driving my spitfire! OK, rant over Stu |

RE: Daylight Headlamps
i just switch on my side lights, this automatically disables the headlights, and still keeps the safety of having the lights on,
i understand that there is an eu disscusion as to wether all cars should be fitted with day lights, not just volvos. |

The only problem with this is that when you get out of the car the side lights are still on. As for blowing bulbs I have an S80 14 months old and have had to replace both dipped light bulbs so far. |

RE: Daylight Headlamps
If you're replacing bulbg at this rate then their is either something wrong, or the car has a design fault! I've driven with lights on for a while in most of my cars (just turning them on manually) and my motorbike has a constant headlight (and most bikers turn them on all the time as well) and in 8 years driving (35,000+ miles per year for the first 4 years) and I have had 1 bulb blow in all that time.

RE: Daylight Headlamps
Hi Bob,
Your dealer should be able to do this for you (it says so somewhere in the handbook)- although I agree with Peter that as a safety feature it's better to keep them on. On the subject of the EU ruling on day running lights, the proposal to make them compulsory was rejected. Cheers, Graeme S60 Register Keeper

RE: Daylight Headlamps
While the subject is probaly passed the sell by date - Just to say I had the running lights disconnected for delivery because the option of using fog lamps without headlights was required. The dealer did not advise this facility was available when the reason was given, the handbook taken in advance did not have related detail.
Without getting involved with the controversy would consider drivers should have the intelligence to know when the requirement for lights exists, the police do not operate with running lights on their Volvo's in my area!
