Leaking like a sieve. Bone question..
But at least it's not about lights or rooftrims!!
Velma has sprung a leak. It's annoying me something chronic! I knew the rear driver's side footwell was a bit damp, thought it had been the door seals. Investigation showed the Driver's footwell to be a bit wet too. Wet and Dry hoovered it, collecting 4 litres of water in the process!!!! Not to mention the stuff that was in the sodden soundproofing I threw away.. Ive hunted and cannot find where the car is leaking. All bungs appear in place but the bottom metal/plastic trim of the windscreen is dislodged... Question is, does this provide a waterproof seal? or is it purely cosmetic? Could this be where all the water is getting in?

I'm not sure what sits at the bottom of the screens on 740's but if it's anything like my wife's Focus they can be a problem. The pollen filter is located above the passenger footwell in them and if whoever serviced it last hasn't replaced the seal correctly it lets water in badly. It may be worth checking this area to see if anything looks amiss. Also may be worth check the drain holes in the doors. I had a leak in an old escort which filled the front and rear drivers side footwells. By putting tissue paper at various point under the carpet I found a rear light cluster was letting water in.

Sun Roof
Does your car have a sun roof ? because the water runs down into the sunroof housing then down the door and into the floor. I've had this with a 740, 240, 300, Range Rover, Mercedes Benz 500Se
Also check the floor to see if there is a tiny hole where the A post, footwell and floor meet (provided this is possible) Charlotte |

It has got a sunroof......
Hmm.. Will investigate it, although I did check it earleir and it appeared pretty watertight.. Quote:
If anyone is currently suffering a water shortage, I have adequate supplies in the footwells to keep most of UK going for some time!! Seems like it anyways!!

The leak could be down to a displaced or damaged bulkhead grommet, as happens on many 200 Series cars. Good hunting
