high miles
Hi again we have a 940 cd lpt p reg due to having to purchase it after a elderly gentleman decided to pull out into the side of me in my original car a 2.0 440 glt!! and has wrote it off due to it needing two passenger doors and front wing the insurance company have left the car with us which has put us facing a difficult decision. We dont know if to keep the 940 or 440 both auto the 940 has 209.000 miles on clock which is the only thing that is detering us from keeping it as our 440 has only 53000 on clock, both have service history.
We also tow a caravan and know 9s are better for that!! anyone with a 940 lpt with this milage? |

Hi,
Well, I have a 940 HPT with 218K on the clock. That good enough for you?? You will certainly see a good number of 9 series with high mileages of 150K and upwards. You will undoubtedly also see a number of 240's with such a high mileage, and higher. There are a number of similarities between the two - engine wise. So long as maintenance has been regular, you should see no real surprises by way of maintenance or problems. Certainly nothing that you couldn't get help for on these very forums. I would stick with the 940. But I am biased and like the RWD and safety they provide. Des. . . Last edited by CTCNetwork; May 13th, 2006 at 15:53. |

209K miles should be nothing for the LPT engine, the fully blown HPT is a very long lasting engine and the LPT is identical in every way except for lower boost pressure so the engine should be well under stressed and last a long time.
I bought a cheap 940 2.3 non turbo for spares and that had done 270K miles, I removed the head and found no wear in the engine and it still had the honing marks on the bores...impressive

Quote:
the usual suspect is the fuel pump relay, the soldered joint inside the relay start to break as the relay heats up

high miles
I have a `97 lpt with 352000 on the clock, for 6months now, apart from a leaking radiator all is very good. It was owned by a bloke who was doing up to 250 miles each day from Rye, East Sussex, to Heathrow and Gatwick airports. It is likely the high speed driving, mostly on the motorway, along with regular servicing has kept the motor in good nick! So I reckon stick with the lpt!

Hi, Also check Fuel Pressure Regulator is working as if the pressure is low, the car sometimes takes a while to start. Also check if the fuel filter was changed recently.

Hi, It is the Fuel Filter you need to check relating to starting snags. Look in "Search" at top of screen for posts on changing the fuel filter as there are some awkward bits.
