V70 AWD (Tyres)
Hi Guys,
Hope someone can answer my question regarding the tyres for these V70 AWD's. We all know they have to be within 2mm (tread wear from back to front and vice versa). After speaking to my dealer this morning about the V70 recall we then had a general chat about these motors (AWD's)and he did say the tyres even have to be of the same kind back and front i.e. Avon back and front etc. I mentioned our V70 has Avon on the front and Pirelli on the rear (all new)he carried on to say the tyres should all be kept the same due to different (rolling resistances of the tyres)this seems to be taking the tyre issue a bit to far. He knew the car and that it has not had any transmission problems and has done 95k. He put that down to the fact that it just does short journeys i.e. 30 - 50 miles per week he said if it did longer journeys of maybe 200-300 miles at a time the different tyres would have an effect on the transmission. What do you guys think: is my local Volvo technician in fact right about the (rolling resistances of different tyres having an effect on the transmission)? And by the way thanks for your replies to my problem with my tailgate lock, i did spray it with WD40 and it is a fine again and the dash tailgate open light is out. |

Quick calculation on your mean average miles per week makes your car 36 years old, didn't know they did AWD that long ago?????????? LOL

RE: V70 AWD (Tyres)
Hi Garry
I have always been told by the Volvo specialist I use and also numerous tyre vendors and Volvo dealers not to mention many other forum members that you should always have all 4 tyres of the same brand and type and within the 2mm tolerance all round that you say. This all helps prevent the dreaded diff wind up and the horrific costs of repair/replacement. Not following these recommendations can lead to many ££££££'s worth of repairs! I wouldn't take the risk especiallly having had to spend those ££££££'s. Regards

RE: V70 AWD (Tyres)
How much transmission 'unwind' do you get from hitting potholes?
Changing the thread a bit my dad was an RAF driver during National Service (Suez 1953) and one technique on the old 4WD lorries was to bump the kerb every so off to unwind the trans. Was this true? |

Ian,
Whose Strut Brace do you have fitted, and is it a dealer only install? Peter |
