Buy the Westfalia.

PF Jones website has it for just under £200.
Buy the wiring from Volvo (your local or Simon atFRF) . Around £50 for 7 pin or £100 for 13 pin.
Fit it yourself with a mate in an afternoon.

Enjoy the better looking towbar and pocket the £350.

Hello Gary, please see my comments near the bottom of page 2, referring to my experience with the "Volvo" detachable towbar fitted by the dealer.

Go for the Wesfalia. It is really well engineered and is invisible when detached. Our son's school parking lot is full of XC90's and I must say that I am happy every day that we don't have the Volvo "detachable" tow bar (or the clunky looking cover).

I'm very pleased with my Volvo dealer fit bar with the 13pin electrics, I've used it to tow a 1700kg twin axle caravan up to Scotland and around France approx 9000 miles so far with out problem. I would very happily buy the same again

We got the dealer fit on our new car - happy with it, towed 1750 caravan. As it was on a new car got a 3yr warranty on it as well. Expensive? - yes.

Gary,

I had a Westfalia fitted to my XC90 in Febrary and its been great. Very easy to use and totally hidden when tow ball deatched. 13 pin socket swings down when in use and up again hidden away when not needed.

I paid £400 fitted which was about £100 more than a fixed one but the extra has been worth every penny.

You only need the SW download if you plan on towing a caravan in the fog - as all it does is de-activate the cars fog lights (if there are fog lights on the caravan) to stop the car lighs reflecting off the front of the towed caravan.
