Well done indeed mate. A lot of garages forget what a clogged fuel filter does for an engine. Back in the days when I had a young family we had a Simca 1100 (with sunshine roof!) which developed a bad case of lung cancer in Cornwall. After trying all sorts of things added to the fuel tank I eventually got the message and cleaned the pump and carburettor filters (small cylinders of gauze wire) and reverse flushed the fuel line under garage air-line pressure. Well, the old gel went just as if someone had attached a JATO (Jet Assisted Take Off) unit to her back bumper after that! So there is always the possibility of fuel starvation causing surprisingly lack-lustre performance. I had a similar thing with a fuel injected Carlton estate which turned out to be the fuel filter.

Incidentally the replacement interval for Fuel Filters on 200, 400,700.900 and 850 series cars is 60,000 miles, with diesel models being changed every 30,000 miles.

All the best, Peter
