RE: 850 T5, conversion to accomodate pollen filter
Tim
I have sent you an e-mail but could not figure how to attach a file to it - call me dumb! Regardless, here is the meaty stuff from the Volvo instructions, paraphrased by me... starts----- <preamble> yak, yak When installing the filter it is recommended that the ECC is reprogrammed by an authorised volvo workshop 1 Remove wiper arm attachment nuts and wiper arms, cowl drain hose clamps and drain hoses (2 off), cowl attachment screws (5 off across the front). Remove cowl 2 Note apparently 1993 and some 1994 models have a sensor in the air inlet, so there are some additional instructions for these models - one would really need to see the pics to get it right. However, the basis instructions is to remove sensor and screws from the holder, drill a dole in the pollen filter housing, attach the sensor to a plate that is then attached to the pollen filter housing, and then secure the sensor cable with a tie. back to the common instructions again: 3 Remove the rain protection cover from the air inlet. 4 Install (ie simply press on) the pollen filter holder over the air inlet rubber seal. 5 Install (ie snap in place) the pollen filter (it can only go one way) 6 reinstall the cowl 7 reinstall the wipers. -ends----- Some additional thoughts (not from volvo): 5a - Check the drains (2 off) within the plenum chamber (ie hidden when cowl is in place) are clear of debris and draining freely. If these block water can flood into the cabin through the heater air inlet. In my RHD 850 one drain is hidden under the fuse box, so I "rodded" it with a skewer and then flushed it through. 7a - A dab of thread locker on the wiper nuts would not go astray in helping to prvent the "loose wiper" syndrome. Note also that I do not know exactly what the ECC reprogramming refers to. I spoke to the guys that service repair my 850R with the electronic climate control and they said it was not necessary for mine so I did not pursue the details. Works fine! Wolfgang |

RE: 850 T5, conversion to accomodate pollen filter
Hi
Just done the biz - took no time at all. The procedure is just as Wolgang has described, and the parts required are just the housing and filter - housing from Volvo, filter from Nordic, both a lot of money for what they are, but that's only to be expected. I'm guessing the ECC reprogramming may have something to do with the filter reducing the air flow and thus affecting the ECC management, as there is a sensor (temperature or air flow?) in the air intake duct (not on A/C only models). Thanks everyone for the help.

Hi
If dust and leaves and stuff are blocking up the evap then is there a way of getting in and cleaning it??? I know there is a drain hose but where could one access the evap to clean it!! I am hoping to avoid replacing another one. Matt |

Remove the blower fan, and go in from there.
