i used to have a K&N 57i filter & it did make a lovley noise but can't recall it making any performance difference, changed to a Pipercross cone & it revs alot easier & was a noticable difference over the K&N

Hi,
I would imagine so, as the filter material is more "breathable" (bigger holes for the air to get through)... Also you have the advantage of being able to clean it each year, thus saving money. For a better performance you may want to consider an induction filter. But you won't fully realise the benifits until you open up your exaust more than standard.. Des. . .

I agree with Pedro the K&N is just a gimmick it won't make any difference other than sound good. Go for a good universal cone if you are fitting a cone. K&N's are some kind of cotton which gets shredded under the bonnet in no time make sure the one you go for has a steel/alloy mesh outer and it will be a lot easier to clean that the K&N (won't give them bonnet room waste of money bit like M&S over Tesco)
Another thing you will need is once you have fitted the cone filter after 500 or so miles get the mixture rechecked as the airflow increases through the mass meter the fuel may increase to, mine has and now I have nice black spark plugs and not grey ones although my plugs have been in for 6months 9,200miles . personally i use a itg air filter which is far better than a standard one....as for air induction i find that two cold air feeds from the front fog light spoiler holes up to the standard air box....
problem with a cone is that unless it is in a box your turbo will suck in warm air from the engine bay and as warm air has more mass than cold it rather defeats the object....*you want your air as cold as possable*.... BSR do a great cone induction kit with a protective sheild and they are available from sw auto's...off the top of my head they are about £150..., you will have to ring stuart to clarify..... cheers jod
