Default 700/900 estate, must have turbo & manual gearbox. SWOP?

My 760 TD Saloon is now a little cramped for me, my son and four dogs! Ideally I'd like another TD estate but most are out of my price range. So, a petrol estate, must have manual gearbox and turbo (even better low mileage, service history, cambelt changed would be nice!)

May be willing to swop my low mileage 760 GLE TD saloon, full black leather, electric drivers seat, etc.., always serviced since I've owned him, cambelt changed less than 10 thou ago

Hi, what condition is your saloon in?

I have a 1990 760 Diesel Estate I may part with.

Engine is A1, 105K, previous owner fitted a new diesel pump at 70 something thou. Oil and filters changed regularly by myself since I bought it nearly two years ago, running very happily on full synth. Bodywork is very good, zero rust or rot but there are a couple of tiny supermarket dings on the os rear wing around the back light, they were there when I bought it. The leather of the driver's seat has been worn by the rivets on my jeans but is intact, just needs a bit of dye. I've always had a full sized hammock type dog cover on the back seats. Boot does get a tiny bit wet if I power hose the car down but not when going through a car wash. The downside to this car is the auto gearbox, you cannot achieve around town the mpg which you can with the M90 but on a clear motorway run and locked up you can acheive same mpg. All good very newish tyres, Dunlop Sports rear, Kumos front, way better roadholding than an estate, much more of a driver's car, you can have a bit of fun it in. MOT till October.

My 760 is auto is that a prob??

Its done 163,000 plenty of history with it. the drivers seat is worn and a very small length of stitching has come undone on the front passenger seat.

The body is very good too, the only thing that lets it down is the head lining, Its sagging, its not ripped or torn just sagging. I'll have to see when the TnT are up.

Aah, headlinings, I forgot! Mine is sagging just a little bit at the very back but because it's a nice black one and not those awful white/cream ones that get all grimy I've never bothered about it, in fact I like to see it streaming at high speed with all four windows open, lol!!

Does yours smoke at all, use oil, is there a cambelt change due? Apart from a very short period of white smoke in the very low temps on start up and a tiny puff of black smoke when overtaking, it is basically a non-smoker and uses zero oil between oil changes

Mine is facelift, has the 940 headlights but the old type rear lights, you can see some pics on my profile page

It smokes a little when first started in the morning, nothing over the top, It only runs on 5 cylinders for the first few seconds as the 6th glow plug wants doing. the others were changed but the 6th is still in the box in the glove box. If that was done It would hardly smoke at all. There's no smoke at all when going, even at night in the headlights there is very little haze.

It has a Volvo dog guard and a seven seat conversion that folds down out of the way. It hasn't used any oil or water since I got her.

Is there any vibration from you centre prop mount?? None from mine!

No vibration. I did have a new bush fitted that mounted the diff to the body, that used to give a thud when it took up gear, the garage did that, it was a big job, they had to drop the driveshafts too. It has had a new brake master cylinder, fitted by 'Mastermechanic' on here when he fitted the new cam belt. New front discs, all new brake fluid, good pads all round.

I'll take some piccys of mine tomorrow and pop them up.

Apart from the head lining the only other thing that wants looking at is a rattle from the front somewhere at low speed, I think it might be an anti-roll bar bush. It drives fine no pulling to one side or anything. stops in a straight line, no warning lights on the dash or anything.

I always let it idle before switching off to let the turbo wind down.

The two previous owners were big into diesels, one works for Perkins

The main previous owner of mine runs a transport company and it was always serviced there. He did tow a caravan with it which is why I think that bush had worn out. It has a towbar but he still has the original rear skirt which I havent bothered to go down and pick up from Essex, assume he still has it. So yours needs glow plug 6 doing and cam belt change and headlining sorted. Yes, some pics please!

Glow plug 6 and the head lining, its had a cam-belt and water pump done. There is a tow-bar with single electrics, I haven't used them.
