Italian tuneup
Epic fail. Flatspots in places that seem to vary depending on how I drive. Lambda light back on.
Nasty "click" in steering that is new. Steering that does not operate smoothly is very worrying. Rubbing noise, possibly stuck caliper LH front. A mate of mine who claims to be able to fix these is coming on Monday for another purpose but I will Shanghai him. |

Sorry to hear that! I'm sure you've already checked but is it worth double checking all the hoses for splits, security, perishing etc?
If not, good luck with your mate on monday and please update us with the cause!

Cause
My money is on a displaced throttle position sensor.

Why would that create the symptoms you describe?
It is my understanding that on the throttle body of a 940 there are two microswitches. One says that the throttle is fully closed, and tells the ECU to manage tickover via the the idle air control valve. The other tells the ECU that the throttle is fully open and tells the ECU that you couldn't give a stuff about clean burn or smooth drive, just releases the horses. Everything in between is sorted out between the MAF and the lambda sensors. Why would a nasty steering click be related to engine woes? The car is rear wheel drive, so the engine should have no influence at all on the sensation through the steering wheel surely? |

Tps
I may be wrong but I think TPS is continuous not a switch. WOT swithc (I think) differs.
I think the steering click is "somebody dropped womething somwhere". Migh tbe somethihg fouling on the new downpipe. |

Progress (not)
Well, my expert mate arrived yesterday.
We are getting no reading from the reader on fuel items. That seems suspicious. I need first to re-test the reader and then re-try. Maybe I have a fubarred EZK. I gather the blithering things are coded to the ignition key so I'd need an EZK, a key, and an ignition barrel at the very minimum and then I'd ahve different keys for doors and ignition grrrr. We are getting 1-2-2 on the cruise control which on the lists I have appears not to be a known fault (!) although I thought it was an AMM code. He is coming back next week armed with a Volvo gadget. Still have scraping noise from LH front - probably sticky caliper after all this time doing nothing. Still have little catch in steering - probably steering UJ fouling new downpipe maybe curable with lump hammer. Very ****ed off. |

Does 2-2-1 or 2-1-2 appear on the fault list? I've had that before on something or other where i've mis-read the code.
Just a wild guess here, does it have a cam sensor of some description or maybe a crankshaft position sensor? I seem to recall similar problems on early Motronic/Digifant/similar equipped Vauxhall models that were usually caused by a sensor of that type. Too many moons ago now to remember properly though sadly.

ezk
the ezk isn't coded. I've put three different ones in mine with no issues. Just make sure you replace a turbo one with a turbo one.
