Hi, any updates you can share? I am interested as considering purchasing volvo warranty at the end of this month and one of the reasons is because I have the adaptive headlamps with shadow technology and if these fail will be very expensive. If they aren’t covered then I would not be so quick to purchase the warranty.

My keyless entry failed on three doors recently. Now the warranty states handles are not covered, hence the policy sounds like it would not cover this failure. However as we all know its not the handle, however the electronic trickery behind the scenes. I would argue your issue, to the point that a Volvo technician comes out to your local dealership to access the problem. It might be a loose connector (don't laugh, it could be that easy).
If my fog light ''lamp'' failed i'd understand the refusal. An expensive, extremely delicate and complicated unit such as this should be covered. The definitions are very grey with these warranties so be prepared to stand your corner. |

Has the bulb failed or still working and is it an LED unit or BI-XENON? Something you may want to check ,,,,,,,,Last year I had the near side bulb fail in my Active Bi xenon unit and unbeknown to me when i bought the car THE WRONG TYPE OF BULBS WERE FITTED. There are BI-XENON UNITS fitted to Volvo's which are static XENON lamps and do not bend and ACTIVE BI-XENON UNITS which are the bendy ones. (but I am talking regards to XC90's it maybe different for your XC60. My XC90 has Active Bi Xenons) They both have a different part no. bulb fitted but both will work in the bendy type headlamp unit but whereas the proper bulb for the none bendy type unit will not turn the lamps when steering but will illuminate,..... the body of the bendy type Xenon Bulb has a lug on it which i think causes the lamp unit to turn when steered. The point i am trying to make is that until 2 of the correct bulbs were fitted last year (always best to fit in pairs) i didn't even realize i had ACTIVE units i thought they were just the static fixed BI-XENONS. but you can see both the headlights turn when steering now. Just worth checking maybe......Somebody like Tannaton or Clan can confirm that for you in which case the bill for 2 bulbs will be in the region of £400.00 plus labour not the £1500 you've been quoted. I was very lucky in that i have a very good indie tech who looks after my car and he got them for me at cost £85.00 each.... Bargain. Hope this helps

"does not cover":- Lamps (LED lamps are covered providing 50% of the lighting has failed), bulbs (Bi-Xenon bulbs ARE covered).
This would then imply, that the term "Lamp" is not used to describe the headlight ASSEMBLY, but is used to differentiate between LED lights and incandescent - bulb shaped - lights. Lamps vs bulbs. The ejit who "confirmed" does not understand English or implication. I would say that you have a strong case to argue that it is the Headlight ASSEMBLY that has failed, and that the warranty's wording covers this perfectly - the difference between a lamp and a bulb - when it states that:- "50% of the lighting has failed" is obviously referring to [such as] 11 out of 20 individual LED's on a brake light cluster, for example. Also, the fact that Bi-Xenon BULBS - ARE covered, then the rest of the headlight ASSEMBLY is also covered, as it is not expressly excluded, as lamps and bulbs are adequately described above. Hope this helps. I wouldn't pay £1500 for a light assembly.... |

Hi
My brother has a Nissan and had a problem with the EGR valve. They said it wasn't covered as it was part of the exhaust and exhausts were excluded. He appealed against it and once he talked to someone and explained what the valve was, they covered it. I think a lot of the time it is just penpushers in an office that make the initial descision without actually understanding what the bit actually is. Definitely worth appealing, are you in the AA, RAC.? They can sometimes assist with advice and help. Iain |

The D2'S on that year are fitted on the (static) BI-XENON (not moving) units. The point I was trying to make was that having changed my bulbs ( because one had blown ) from D2's to D1S's the units then turned when steering (Active)(bendy) where-as prior to the bulbs being replaced they had not (or if they did I had not noticed it LOL). The body shape of the 2 type and 1 type bulb differ also and I assumed that the D1s type which i have ( which has a lug on the side ) pushed against a micro switch or something in the lamp housing to activate the motion part of the unit.on turning the steering wheel. If that being the case is the same with the XC60 and a new correct type bulb was not fitted then that would aggravate the diagnosis of a faulty head lamp unit when in fact it may just have been wrong bulb.
