Does that make me more or less inclined towards a warranty? As I see it, it shows how easily the cost of a repair can run away. Hence, for me, the peace of mind that came at the price of around about a set of tyres was and still is worth it. And I'll seek out a new warranty when this one runs out. But try to find one that DOES cover oil leaks... But only you can decide how much that peace of mind is worth to you.

I had only one problem so far at about 40,000 miles. Apart from the known ones fixed by Volvo. I bought a 3rd party part and had it fitted by my local honest garage. £170 all incl.
I decided now - I will go for self insured........ |

What I ended up with on going back into used car world.
Bought a 50k mile FVSH 2017 XC90 T8 from a non Volvo dealer in Aug. Have been chasing lease deals for a few years and had just sent back a V90 which gave me the Volvo bug! Concern over forums talk on ERAD etc. made me go into overdrive on warranty research. Must say it's very complex once you start reading cover docs, especially with a hybrid engine with supercharger and turbo as several warranty companies EXCLUDE electric drivetrain stuff. Ended up with the RAC/ALA Premium Plus policy for 3 years of cover @ £578 total cost with Piston12 discount code used. https://www.ala.co.uk/warranty/what-is-covered.html Based on my research RAC seem to cover all I might need and has a decent low price. Will let you know if I end up using it! NOTE: I did not choose breakdown cover option with warranty as I also discovered that each time you get a Volvo dealer service, it includes 12 months of 'Volvo Assistance' breakdown cover. Dealers may be more expensive for service but you always get a software update and the breakdown, seems well worth it to me! https://www.volvocars.com/uk/own/mai...ervice-promise Decent breakdown coverage too with onward travel, car hire, hotel and Europe. https://www.volvocars.com/uk/own/mai...k-and-eu-cover Last edited by hoganscrogan; Nov 13th, 2020 at 19:43. |

Reading the exclusion list, there’s a hell of a lot.

After twenty years with the Green Oval, now moved over to Volvo, taking warranty via Warranty Direct who on this thread it has been mentioned they also cover wear and tear whereas Land Rovers own extended warranty does not, also incidentally is provided by Car Care, who will also not cover known faults, so with the Discovery 3L engine supplied by Ford with a crankshaft made of cheese, when it goes Land Rover extended warranty do not want to know, so your left picking up the tab on a 16k replacement engine. Warranty Direct will cover it, you get the choice of which garage. It was costing me £1750 for two years with Warranty Direct, uncapped, and no excess, who have also quoted me £700 with an XC60 for two years.
It has also been said on here and on Disco4.com there do not have an issue with Warranty Direct paying out, unlike others, Motor Easy especially is not popular. |
