Default whistle?

There's a medium pitched whistling noise (lasts for approx 1 second) whilst accelerating. Its intermittent (but fairly frequent) and more so at about 2.5k + revs.

The turbo also seems a fair bit quieter when it spools up, and I've noticed that power seems less of a surge than it used to. Needs to be revved more to make brisk progress.

Would a vaccum leak give these sorts of symptoms? This is my 1st turbo diesel engined car so I've lots to learn.

At first, I thought this was a 'dumping' noise, but it only happens approx 2 seconds after starting to accelerate rather than when I change gear or lift off

Thanks in advance. I have the 2.0D S40 ('05 plate)

I get a whistle when accelerating from 2-2.5k revs, but I have no loss in performance so I believe this to be the normal sound from the turbo

My C30 2.0D has been remapped and I get the whistle when pulling hard between 2000 and 2600 revs. Sounds like a lot of air going through a small hole in a hurry. Which is exactly what it is. Not a problem.
