B230E Main Fuel Pump wanted - 740
Looking for a fuel pump for a 740 saloon B230E.
The mian one that sits under the floor in a cage. Let me know what you have - even better if you're local to West Mids. If you're breaking a different 2.3 Volvo (740/940/etc) let me know and I'll check if it will fit!

you can get ones on fleebay, but AVOID!!! I got one fo ra 940, found the connections different, and thought, simple, get a hose made to suit the new end, was an absolute night mare to get sealed again, and loads more hassle than its worth. Motor factors sell proper ones for around £80ish.

Mine has finally failed, I need one too.
It's my own fault. My main pump steadily got so noisy that I couldn't hear the engine. As I've never had the radio code, it didn't bother my in car entertainment, but I've gone and done it now. Last night the buzz from the pump changed and sounded like a scooter climbing up too much of an incline, it just wound down to nothing, then of course the engine died. Luckily I was just around the corner from home and I pushed Anna-Frid to my front door. I have been offered a replacement from a local scrap yard, but it's off a V70. He says it'll fit, but I don't know. After a bit of research I see that the Bosch 580254909 does for the 3 series BMW's, one BMW5 series (518) the Porsche 924, various VW's and the Volvo 240 series and finally the 740. Mine is the normal aspirated 2.0 740SE Auto. I've also been told that I have to check the in tank pump too as it could have caused the main to fail. This job could be an easy one to fix, or it could turn into a monster. Can anyone help? Even advice will be gratefully recieved. BTW she's on about 135000 miles

I had to change both of mine - the one in the tank went, which I can only assume starved the main one and that died aswell then.
Main pump easy to change. In-tank one not too bad but have patience and be careful with it - twist it to find a confortable way to pull it out - don't be tempted with brute force and ignorance! I am actually breaking a 940 at the moment (it's a non-turbo 2.3 1991) and is likely to be the same pumps as you are after. The main pump is making a bit of a strange noise, but has been doing so for the 3,000 miles I was driving it for. If you wanted it, it would be a bit of a gamble though... could be on it's way out, or it could go for another 20,000 miles! Not sure about the in-tank pump - I think it works ok. If you are interested in either let me know and I'll double check they are working.

Hi everyone, I've had to nip round to the local accessory shop and get one as I need the car quickly. Thanks for your interest and offers. At £75, I hope it wasn't too bad a price. I did some internet work and rang around and if I was prepared to travel or order online I could have got it down to £60 ish. Anyway, thanks friends.

Gosh, darn it! Or words to that effect. I walked round to the shop only to find that the pump they specially ordered in for me was the in tank one. So £75 is bl**dy expensive in my book. GSF saved the day though. I'm waiting for them to bring me the right one for which they are charging me £58.20 including the new 20% Gov't rip off tax. So, there IS a God. It should be with me before 5 today.
It duly arrived and it IS the correct one and what a difference to the small in tank pump which I was offered at first in error for £75. The one in front of me right now actually feels like £58.20's worth. BTW GSF do the in tank one for £38 + 20% Gov't rip off tax, so it comes out at £44.85. £75.00 indeed! Huh! I'm happy to say that Anna-Frid has never, (touch wood), run so well. So silent too. Now I can hear the engine purring as I should. FSE were brilliant too. All in all, a successful conclusion. I have one minor, but ill advised, but self inflicted grumble. I almost ran out of fuel on Sunday night. You see, I used the noise from the pump as an audible tell tale for low fuel. When it was critically low, the sound changed and I'd make for a filling station. It's so silent now that I didn't get the warning until she cut on a roundabout, thankfully, only to pick up again once straight and level again. I made it to the station, but just. OK, that's a bad habit out of the window and now I make sure the needle is well up the red at least. Yeah, I know, any problems as a result, would have been my own fault. Now, what next? I feel a song coming on. Will it be ball joint? Will it be tyres? Decisions will rest with me. Que sera sera, whatever will be will be etc...
