There is a common theme, also had the same issue back in 2009, on a Freelander 2, exactly the same issue guess, who supply the genuine Freelander 2 detachable towbar, that’s correct, Thule/Brink, the one I had looked exactly the same as the OP”s. Mine was less than a year old, after a lot of calls to Thule @ Nuneaton iirc, at first they said they had never had a problem with them, but anyone who has had a Freelander 2 and was on Freel2.com there are pages on the issue.
Thule then sent me a new towball and receiver for me to fit, it also lasted less than a year, Thule then sent me another one, saying it was a modified version and if it failed again they would not replace it, it also failed in a few months, they blamed it on a number of things, one being the length of the detachable part saying as it was very long to go underneath the bumper that made the issue worse, secondly it only according to Thule it only happened to Freelander 2’s that towed with Alko hitches. Removed the Thule one and replaced with a a Westfalia detachable and never had any issues.

To add to the common theme, the detachable towbar which Land Rover fitted to the Disco3/4 also has some well documented issues with coming loose, including completely becoming detached, is also supplied by Brink/Thule.
