Oil filter change - is there an easier way?
Why does the oil Filter change have to be so difficult to perform? I changed the oil of my 2.0D Volvo S40 yesterday attempting to follow several sources and in the end an youtube video proved to be the most helpful ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TSFAT4Q_MQ ).
Even my Hayne's guide told me the fuel filter would lift up to give place for the oil filter to be removed, but that's not the case in my car!! Has anyone come across the same problem as me? What would you advise? This is a snap of my engine and the location of the engine filter: I removed (1) and also (2). The idea is to remove (1) and then stretch your hand under the pipe to take out the filter (unplugging oil lines in your way - which I had to zip tie after putting the new oil filter back) and again the same to put it back in place!! When removing (2) I accidentally unscrewed the bleed valve of the fuel filter, causing air to go in the system, but I will create another post for that question. Its actually not as bad as it might look. 27 mm specialist socket for fuel/oil filter removal is needed for this. As highlighted on photo as 2 ,top hat of fuel filter housing should be undone first (10 mm bolts)then gently lift fuel filter with all hoses connected and slightly push whole thing away so you will gave clear access to oil filter.Bottom frame of fuel filter housing can be undone too. Then undo oil filter lid with 27 mm socket, lift it and replace old oil filter with new one. Put all back in reverse order, don't disconnect fuel lines from fuel filter.

Pull it back towards radiator and filter will come out quiet easy

SOLVED! Found the missing torx screw!
Today I was changing the fuel filter and I found the missing torx, see it below
Thanks for the support everyone but I believe this is the easiest way to remove the oil filter: 1. remove the cover of the fuel filter 2. remove the torx on the left of the fuel filter housing 3. Pull fuel filter up, all hoses and cables too (just disconnect the electric wire) 4 Access oil filter! Hooray! |
