Default Cruise control packed up.. V70 TDi

Hi guys.. before I start I must say I've not looked into the problem regarding the cruise control yet, but am just about to get on the case.. tomorrow 10th May 21.

One thing I will say though is this.. the other evening I heard what can only be described as a 'boing' in the drivers footwell area. Nothing seemed to be amiss, but when I got to my destination I found what can only be described as a 'bloody great spring' and two moulded plastic cups laying in the footwell. On further inspection it was attached to the clutch pedal. Photo below.

Both the brakes and the clutch seem to be working fine, but the cruise control is not. That's a first, because I've had the car since 2008, and never had a problem with the cruise control.

I must stress that I've just come across the problem of the cruise control not working. It didn't stop working while in use, and the spring may well be nothing to do with it whatsoever. Pure coincidence. Any pointers from you guys I'd be most grateful for though.

Many thanks as always.. Dave..

I think that attaches to the clutch position sensor therefore if it's off the sensor won't know where the pedal is and assume it's pressed so no cruise control

Thanks for that 4X4 If its dry tomorrow I'll get down on my knees and see if I can sort the spring issue. Its really odd that it just decided to drop off like that though, so I'm hoping I'm not going to find something nasty when I start looking.

Dave..

They have a habit of popping out on the XC90 clutch pedal

Now that's interesting.. I wonder why that is? I've had this old gal since 2008 and this is the first time the spring has popped out. I know when I first looked at the size of the spring I thought.. jeez.. that must be doing something!!!

Well.. I'm pleased to report 4x4 that you were right on the money. I taped the plunger of the clutch position sensor switch fully in.. and.. voila.. I have cruise control. The spring is obviously critical in holding the clutch pedal in a certain position to control the sensor switch. Not by much, but enough. Its not having any effect on the use of the clutch thankfully.

The spring itself has detached because the plastic guide/plunger encased in the spring is broken, therefore not giving any rigidity to the springs shape and holding it in position. The (circled)guide/plunger is shown below in a diagram I found online. Unfortunately I can't find a part number for it, so if anybody is familiar with this part I'd be most grateful for a heads up.

Dave..

That part looks exactly the same.. the seat is the part that's broken. Thanks a lot for that parts image 4X4 I'm pretty sure that'll do the job. Great stuff..

Great stuff.. yes I think I'm in luck with that part. It will fit my V70 Tdi. I'm actually off to France next week so I think I'll order it up when I'm over there.

As I said in my earlier post.. there's no discernable difference in the clutch pedals function/movement so now the cruise control's working again I can sweat it for a while. I've an awful lot of driving to do on my trip to France, and the thought of not having the cruise control was really bugging me.

Thanks again for all your help 4x4 its most certainly very much appreciated I can tell you. Its what I like so much about this forum, and what makes it such a precious resource..

Dave..
