Cheers for the replies some good suggestions thus far even if just temporary ones till I can afford a Grom or go all out and replace the head unit.....speaking of which has anyone actually done the impossible and replaced the head unit? The only after market one I have seen is this https://www.bluepower.se/en/product/...ndroid-71.html
Is this literally the only one out there and if so does anyone have one up and running?.......any good? |

What you can do is to buy a simple FM transmitter that plugs into the cigarette lighter. There are many types of these. I bought one that supports SD card input. Additionally it also supports bluetooth. I do not want to stream audio from my phone, because BT drains the battery and I only want it on if I have to make a call. Additionally I do not want to start the music player every time I get in the car; I want this to happen automatically. I think this is the cheapest solution. This is the unit I use: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07MPBWTK1/..._TE_item_image However, I don't recommend it, because it does not seem to have a shuffle mode, so I just listen to all my music in the same order now. Try to find one with the features and design you like. |

I just use an FM transmitter and my phone on a magnetic mount (phone on a mount ceases to be a handheld mobile phone for the purpose of mobile phone driving legislation).
To be fair, it is rare I touch the phone though as most interaction is just "hey google, play x on Spotify" or "play x radio station on tunein" etc. Like the idea of having a tablet mounted, but too much faffing as I know if I left it on there I'd would end up getting nicked. |

The pure highway 600 is worth a look. It does have to use the 12v but you could hard wire it so that you don't have to use the 12v plug.
The highway 600 includes Bluetooth streaming, dab+ and comes with a mic so will do calls and voice searches etc. It plugs in via aux in but as it does thr phone too it is less of an issue.. This is how the stock head unit should have come in the car imo. I have a Highway 400 in my xc60 it doesn't include the mic but works a treat. Think they also have a Spotify integration

Would it be possibly to use a splitter on the existing aux and this would still work?

Yep, as lockstock said. If you have a look on YouTube the manufacturer install video is on there, also some unboxing videos so you can see how easy it is to install etc

You could use a aux splitter if that was a requirement to connect other devices to aux at the same time. It does the trick as it just feeds which ever channel is sending signal

So, I get in car, put phone in cradle on dash, turn ignition and the 12v power wakes my the bluetooth... My phone auto connects and switches to drive mode. all wireless, no faff. Also, its BT5 so sound quality is excellent. I could use an aux splitter to connect another device too if I wanted. I'll post a pic at some point tomorrow. This is an excellent solution though. |
