Default Gear change not as smooth as it used to be.

Hi All,

I've had my S40 for about the last 55,000 miles (it's now on 130,000 with a new dmf and clutch etc. at 120,000) and I've always had smooth gear changes.

However, I can now 'feel' (in my foot) it becoming a bit clunky between 3rd and 4th, especially as it engages with 4th. I guess that this started about a month ago and has not got any worse in that time.

At the moment this is not a problem, a passenger would not notice and I'm happy to continue, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts? Is there some clutch adjusting that needs to be done or should I just not worry?

I must confess to not using my clutch around 30% of the time, especially when changing up, but I've been doing this for years on lots of different cars with no issues.

Thanks

Steve

The oil is well overdue for changing, and as said, check linkage for any slop or dry pivot points etc.
There is a poss the slave cylinder is weeping, thus starting to retract as you are changing gear, and/or you have a weeping seal/slave which has contaminated clutch causing the plate to drag whilst disengaged thus still transferring some drive to the box.

Thanks Andy and Bugsb for your replies - I'll be changing the gearbox oil in the next few weeks ;o) and will check the linkage.
