Drop headliner at rear (estate)
Is there any way of dropping the headliner just at the back on an estate? I've removed the trim but there's 3 yellow plastic clips keeping the headliner up, and I don't want to manipulate them too much for fear of breaking them. Any idea how they come out?
(I want to fit an aftermarket FM/GPS/Dab antenna which needs to be screwed on, and pull the wires, but I don't want to drop the whole thing to do it, or I'll end up having to cover it prematurely.) Last edited by dahamsta; Oct 11th, 2019 at 01:06. |

Not really, sadly the headliner slides in. Might be able to manipulate it enough if you remove d pillar trims, roof trims, and the rear dog guard mounts. Will be tight and the headliner will flex to a certain point before it just rips (no warning).

Bugger. How does it slide in? I presumed when I saw people taking out the boot that you'd drop it at the back and slide it out that way; and then I saw the clips. Do you have to jink it forward to get it to drop?
I actually found the clips in the meantime, but I'm still not clear how they attach to the car. I was hoping they twisted in, which would allow me to drop the liner, but again I'm worried about snapping one. They ain't cheap. |

They should twist in, but its not a 90' turn, more like 45' if I'm recalling correctly. To slide headliner outyou need to remove all the trim surrounding the headliner. That is the A, B, C, and D pillar trims, the trims that run between them along the top of the doors, and all the grab handles, sun shades, rearview mirror and map reading lights.
With all that out of the way, you should find that the front of the headliner is already free and drooping down. You can then remove the clips that you linked to - alternatively, you can try sliding it forwards until they drop off those clips. Half decent forum post on it here. It is a US sunroof car so some slight differences but you should be able to get the gist from it. I did have a whole bunch of pictures on the process but when TinyPic went down I lost them. It really is a 30 mins

Hi
Those 3511391 clips are cheap ($2.81) from Volvo in USA. May be cheap here too - worth asking a local dealer so you dont have to worry about them. HTH Steve

Thanks Steve. Skandix is never a good indicator.
I actually figured it out in the meantime, bit the bullet and twisted more than I was happy with, they do indeed twist 45° as mentioned by Cookeh, clockwise, and then you can pull them down and release the headliner enough to pull wires and/or fit an antenna. Here's a photo of the other side of the clip, in case anyone else needs it in future: https://photos.app.goo.gl/mnwRywPp7tew8pev6 Now I need to figure out how to get my fish tape down the side to the sunroof, it looks like there's an extra large supporting rib there. Time to dig out the boroscope! |
