C30 D5 2008 - Hissing / Boost leak?
Hi there,
I've had my D5 for about 6 months now. The performance seems to have have dropped over time and I am getting a bit of a hissing like a boost leak at around 2000rpm. I've had a good look over the boost pipes and they are fine. I couldn't get to the intercooler because of the bumper, but I sprayed water at it and I couldn't get any bubbles to form. Is there a common issue with a boost 'hiss'? |

That appears to be a no!
The car feels generally down on power too, doesn't feel like it's got the BHP on the ticket really. |

My C70 D5 always made a whooshing/hissing sound on boost that to be sounded like a boost leak. It clearly wasn't though, performance and economy were where they should have been and it never got any worse over 100k miles.
Do you have access to VIDA? If you're planning to keep the car a while then a ripoff chinese DICE box (the interface cable) from eBay and a bent copy of the VIDA software will easily pay you back the £50 investment. You could log actual boost levels against requested boost levels and see what's happening then. Otherwise Manifold Pressure / Boost Level might be something you can read with a generic OBD reader and monitor it while you're driving?

Thanks for your responses.
I will do a test with Vida and see what I get. I'll also try take the wheel arch liner out and take a look at the downpipe from the turbo. I certainly couldn't see any leaking oil from any boost pipe seal, which is unusual as I've been used to VW's leaky boost pipes. |
