Default Paint colour differences in bumpers

Hi all,

I have a 2017 xc90 inscription. I'm just in the process of tidying up the paintwork and there are a few bits on the bumper from the previous owner that require sanding down and respraying.

However, I've noticed there is a panel on the very bottom of the rear bumper and the same on the front bumper that appear to be a very slightly different colour. They also appear to be more of a Matt finish. The car is silver but these bits appear to be a brighter or lighter colour of silver. It's very slight but it's definitely different.

I've got the correct paint and colour code for the rest of the car, I just can't for the life of me find the correct colour code for these pieces.

Anyone have any idea where I can find it? Or even better does anyone actually have the colour code?

Thanks

Damo

Default bumper colour

had a minor bump with the bumper being replaced the repairer ordered the parts which came ready painted from volvo on presenting the bumper to the body the paint was a different shade it had to be painted/matched to the car (not much help for finding a code but it's not a one off)

I don't know the answer but am very interested in this question. I am repairing said silver panel on my car and want to know what colour to spray it. I am also going to try and remove it to spray it, so any tips on removing the rear bumper bottom part will be gratefully received.

I think I may know the answer.

My silver 2017 inscription is a lovely ‘electric silver’ that has a slightly blue hew (is that right?) when it’s clean. I believe they discontinued this very expensive paint option a few years after and so they a dealership may not have the correct paint in stock.

Hope that helps

Don't all XC cars have silver bits on the bottom of the bumper that are supposed to look like skid plates?

If so, it's not your body colour but the silver that they all have - closer from what I've seen to a "hub cap silver" colour than the body colour, as it's not necessarily lacquered.

Paint code very likely to be found on a sticker somewhere on the car, usually in one of the door shuts and three digits.

Poo poo it if you wish, but I was told by an experienced paint sprayer that plastic panels will often show a slightly different shade to metal panels when sprayed with the same colour paint. I don't know if the manufacturers possibly allow for this in slightly modifying the shade of paint to allow for this when assembled ?

Don't shoot me down but after he said it I did have a perception, possibly misguided, when looking at some other cars including my own (Volvos) that there was something in what he said.

Therefore at the end of the day, when painting plastic panels (bumpers), probably best to paint the whole panel ?

Try main dealer for OE paint. It's available in base colour aerosol and 2 pack laquer and in my experience is VERY good. Some older colours are NLA, my local Volvo dealer informed me of this for Titanium Grey Pearl 455, although FRF Volvo in Swansea say they can supply it, so perhaps try them. Recently quoted £32.77 for the 2 part kit including delivery. Might sound relatively expensive, BUT it's good stuff and in the past gave me a great colour match. FRF may also be able to advise you of the correct colour for the "odd" under bumper areas that you mention.

There, another rambling post from me, but some of it may help ?

I think you are mistaken.

All the cars of this era had silver plastic at the bottom of the bumpers. It is just coincidental that the OP also has a silver car. Mine is magic blue (code 467) and silver inserts.

I want to know what silver colour to use - as does the OP.

Yes. You are correct. We need a match for the generic matt silver of the bumper bottom inserts.

If the panel which is being referred to is the same as the lower one in the piccie then most of these trim panels have two paint options. 1) Silver 426 or 2) Iron Stone.

2) Is quite a lot darker, more of a Grey. In both cases you will probably need the Matt kit to achive the satin/matt finish.
