Default Mph/1000rpm in top gear ?

Does anyone know the true mph per 1000 rpm in top for my mk1 Volvo V60 twin engine with the 2.4 diesel?

I can't find it anywhere and wanted to check how far out the Speedo is say at 2000rpm.

Are you referring to when in top gear?

Some standalone satnavs provide true road speed. So if you can borrow one it should provide you the answer.

My V70 does around 40mph per 1,000 rpm in eight gear, so I wouldn't be surprised if you have similar gearing to that.

Of course, this assumes that the rev counter is accurate.

Yes, of all the cars I've had, I've found the figure in top gear listed somewhere, but I can only find gear ratios for my V60. If it's showing 75mph on the Speedo at 2000rpm and the gearing is 35/1000rpm in 6th, I know it's 5mph out. Or whatever it is!

Between the information here :

https://www.media.volvocars.com/glob...specifications

and using this :
https://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_speed_rpm.htm

is that able to give you the info you need ?

Or as suggested by Soto, if you are just looking to confirm the accuracy of your speedo, a sat nav should give you an accurate reading, or google maps on your phone gives you a speed reading, or any number of apps will give a GPS speed reading. (assuming you have a smart phone of some description)

The volvo speedo is a very accurate instrument getting a pulses every few inches travelled from the abs sensor .The instrument itself is a very accurate moving coil one ..
Volvo choose to make it about 4 mph fast for safety .. you could move the needle back a bit to get it reading the actual speed if you have a refence to check it with .

I'm reminded of a basic 1981 Ford Cortina 1.3 that a manager at work had as a company car. (No L, no GL, no Ghia.)

The car was very underpowered, and top gear was therefore set at 14.9 mph/1,000 rpm.

The poor b*gger's Kent engine had to rev at over 4,000rpm just to achieve 60 mph, and 70 mph required earplugs.

Back then, 20 mph/1000 rpm was quite a long ratio, but my 2014 V70 does roughly 40 mph/1,000 rpm and I think nothing of it.

How things have changed.

Also a four speed box I had a 1980 2.0 Ghia and that needed a 5th gear

If you can't make sense of the calculator, you could ask Nigel Day for his spreadsheet as per post 5 in the thread link below, and put in the data from your engine ?

It's an old thread, but Nigel has been active relatively recently, so he may still be able to pass on the spreadsheet to you.

The info from the links suggests 48mph/1000rpm. I think it's nearer 35?
6th gear is 0.686 and final drive is 3.075. Will have to dig out my old tom tom.
