Default Exhaust corrosion

About a year ago & 13K miles ago, when I had the car serviced I was told there was a fair bit of corrosion on the exhaust and it will need replacing soon but to keep on driving it until it starts blowing, anyway so far it's been fine, no blowing however noticed today there is some stuff hanging off it.

Not sure whether it's properly gone or if it's coated in some kind of protective layer because as I said it isn't blowing or anything at the moment, tempted to just pull the stuff off thats dangling down and leave it. Have attached a pic, although it's not great due to the light and it was taken on my phone.

Any thoughts on whether I should replace it ASAP or just pull the bits hanging off it off and forget about it?

I had the exact same issue on a previous car of mine, it never got picked up on a MOT. I just pulled it off and forgot about it, I think it's the outer protective casing to the exhaust but I think there is another layer beneath.

It was down as an advisory last year, although looking at it closly I suspect if I just pull it off it wouldn't be an advisory as the bits that were underneath that look pretty clean and corrosion free. I'm thinking I'll just pull it off and forget about it until it eventually starts blowing.

Isn't that the heat shield from the floor pan...assuming you mean the bright silver bit?

It is a pretty bad pic, was trying to show the "skin" peeling from the box.
