Problems starting
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, so hope this post is in the correct subforum. Since January I have had an intermittent problem starting my V50, 2.0D (58 plate). It turns over, sounds like it initially fires, but then doesn't and keeps turning over. First time it happened, it seemed like air collected in the fuel filter housing, as AA man got it to start by letting air out of the filter, but next time it happened, this did not work. Volvo dealer did not do anything as there was no error message. Local garage replaced the fuel filter housing as a hairline crack was suspected. Then it ran fine for a while, then it started happening again. A suggestion on another forum was that the fuel tank draws a vacuum pulling the fuel back into the tank and out of the fuel line. The folks at my garage have dropped the tank and checked the breather tubes, but didn't find anything suspect. Another idea was that one of the fuel pumps is not working properly and that in combination with an empty tank (less than a quarter full) that might cause the issue, however, yesterday after having no problems for several days, it did not start with half a tank. The car has now been in the garage several times and I have been stranded several times and I was hoping somebody has had this problem and knows the solution or has an idea as to what might be causing this. We really do not want to trade it in as we are very happy with it overall. Thanks for your help. C |

yes 90% chance it is the throttle flap sticking shut due to distored housing . Next time it doesnt start give the throttle a knock with a spanner to free it see if it starts then ...
