Default 2004 V70(170bhp) Fuel efficiency question

Hi,

I have noticed that my V70 is returning around 24-25mpg on my 'around town' journeys. I have no issue with this at all.

When I am on longer journeys, though, is only returns about 31-32mpg.

On these longer journeys (100 miles or so), I drive with Cruise control on at about 65-70mph and I rarely use the climate control at all. No other electrics were on (other than radio) and outside temperature was about 8deg.

The car whas been serviced by Volvo from birth (according to their schedule), with last service on 28th Dec 2011.

Any feedback/advice welcome.

Thanks.

Try driving without the cruise control, you have more control that way. I did and it made quite a difference.

Thanks for the response. I have tried this, but it seemed not to make any difference.

A tad low perhaps...BUT around town, short journeys..in Winter.??.that's always gonna keep your mpg down....but I'd expect a little better nevertheless.
My Winter mpg has always been around the 28/29 mpg mark...with the Summer mpg increasing to 33/35 (on a good run maybe a little more).

My auto V70 does better than that, at 60 I would expect to see around 38MPG on the flat, have you checked all the brakes are free and not binding.

How quick does the car get to normal temperature on the gauge when starting from cold, anything more than three miles and I would suggest changing the thermostat, this can, and does have a bearing on fuel consumption if it's faulty and it's a cheap fix - Mike

Gets to temperature very quickly.

Could look at the brakes, although just got a new MOT.

How are you measuring the consumption? Absolute computer figures are generally wrong , usually overestimating. However I would expect the difference to be more reliable. I run tyres at the high end of the range which helps.

Computer as well as manual calculations. Computer has proved very accurate so far.

New Pirelli P6000s all-round.

Hi
Just for your consolation my v70 2001 T5 is currently showing 19.9 mpg!!!
My v70,2.0, 97 plate showed ten more than that at least!
P1 seem more eco than p2 which are 100kg heavier.
However I do like the like my right foot and it is hilly!!!
Perhaps I should have got an RS6!!! LOL 10k v 1k
On a run should get more!
Looking to LPG once I am certain its fixed - Lambda sensor we think.
Yours James
