Locking wheel nuts anxiety

I know there are other threads about this but I need the best advice specifically for XC60. The lockers are those designed specifically for the XC60 apparently, which have the normal looking hexagonal head and the wavy key slot on the flange. The hexagonal head is designed to spin and cannot be used to remove the bolt in any way.

I removed all of my wheel nuts, lockers and standards no problem BAR ONE.
One locker will not move and the key just rises out of the socket when any torque is applied. The problem seems to be that the locker is slightly damaged. The product description I found for these states that if the nut will not turn for any reason the only way forward is to cut it out.

I have approached a garage that have the Dynomec tool but he needed to order a special adaptor as the kit he has doesn't come with anything that fits the XC60 lockers.

My question is: Has anyone had experience of the Dynomec system to remove these specific XC60 MY11 lockers?

I always worry too much! SUCCESS . Despite couple of indies having a look at the stubborn locker and one sounding like the end of the world was nigh all doom and gloom, I managed to get my Volvo dealer to have a look at it, on spec, and they managed to remove the offending locker for a minimal sum. They didn't say what the problem was but I won't be refitting the OEM lockers.

Can we take it that the car you have is not new? It would appear that someone has damaged something in the past.

Bought the car with 2200 miles on the clock - I doubt the wheels had been off. The wheels have been on and off for winter/summer swaps under my ownership, initially using a well known tyre specialist who was instructed not to use an air gun for the lockers, but latterly I've done the swaps myself. Might have been my fault. Anyway, lesson learned.

This is the first case i have heard of where the latest type wheel keys have not worked , they have been on all the volvo cars for about 4 years now . Your first port of call should be the dealer who can get the master set with perfect keys and there should undo the bolts . I suspect your key has been abused with a air gun at some point in it's short life .
Duplicate keys are not available .
I wouldnt hesitate in using the same locking bolts , just torque them to the usual 140 nm . being fairly unique so far , they have good security .

There are many posts covering failure of the locking bolts but it is not clear if any I have read refer to the latest type you mention which as you say,are apparently uniquely designed for XC60's. The problem with the new type is that if you can't move them then, as the blurb says on the online ads I have read, they have to be cut out with potentially costly damage to the alloys. If the Dynomec system works with these then I would be happier fitting them but ironically that means that they are not that secure since anyone can buy the kit.

Like Clan says the latest Volvo locking wheel nuts are a good design sort of ratchet teeth facing both ways one set for tightening and one set for undoing. It’s not the locking wheel nuts that are the problem it’s the occasional air gun happy cowboy tyre fitter. The best solution I have found is to buy 4 genuine standard wheel nuts and swop them over before the car goes for new tyres, it takes 5 minuets and can save hours on the side of the road. It’s a good idea to invest in a ½ breaker bar and an extended hex socket then you can undo the locking nut square to the wheel. Never fails, its better than using the dodgy angled OEM wheel brace.

One excellent point , Having never used a standard car wheel brace for decades that particular point never came to mind .
Go to halfords , get a long 1/2" square lever bar and a 19mm socket to suit . That will prevent any tilting of the wheel nut key when trying to undo ...
