Default 1998 V40 Moving Front Disc

Hi,

I recently had two new front tyres fitted and noticed my car had developed a clunking noise under braking on the nearside front. I took off the wheel and I discovered that the disk was "wobbling" - I attach a video (needs sound) where you can see and hear the disc is loose. I'm assuming this isn't normal and if so, what can I do to fix it? If it is normal; IGMC.

Thank you,

Andy

you are moving the camera too much to see where any play is.. You should be able to see surely? Has the disk cracked away from the hub? Is there play in a suspension joint? Unfortunately you are the only person able to see where the problem is...

As Clan says the video is not that clear. The disc is only held in place when the wheel is fully tight.
As a starting point I would clean up the rusty surface of the disc around the wheel studs and the inner surface of the wheel which mounts to it.

If when the tyres were changed if the wheel did not go back in exactly the same position the it might have loosened off which might be the cause of the clunk.

I know what is missing, disc retaining grub screws.

Of course ! However, that is irrelevant as the wheel bolts are what clamp up the disc to the hub.... and that is when the rattle was first observed, with the wheel on I assume.

Then you need to put the wheel back on and re shoot the fault in the video. The disc will naturally "Float" on the studs and (hub) flange without retaing screws whilst wheel is off. (Pending on pad pinch)

And please steady the camera when/if you re- shoot.
