I've used loads of different types of filter but unless you want a load more noise, it's best to stick with the OE spec stuff.

I'd ignore the look of the actuator, grab it with one hand and pull hard toward the offside of the car, if it moves easily then it needs tightening a little (or possibly replacing)

To clean the injectors, you'll need a sonic bath, some mineral thinners and the correct Bosch injector rebuild kit. These come with filters, seals and pintles. You'll also need to wire them up to a battery (I use a 9V with an inline switch) to flush them through (I use a syringe and some silicone hose).

thanks mate i do have mineral thinners and my mate told me about the trick with the syringe and a square battery just done that but no noticeable difference ... but im sure its running better
i put a cheap cone on it today and well lets say it didn't like it,i found a panel filter from pipecross today for 35 so i think ill go for that or the k&n is the same price...
I did give the arm on actuator a pull and it seems to be tight so maybe it is ok!

That's good news. You really need to change the internal filters on the injectors to notice a real difference. Mine had more top end pull, better response and a hugely improved MPG (from 36 to 41 on the same 16 mile, mixed driving route)

You'll need the rear lambda deleted from the ECU map or it'll throw a full-blown hissy fit. Putting a fooler boss in there won't help. ME7 is very sensitive like that.

You won't need bigger injectors unless you're looking for big power from that thing, what you have will be enough for a 320bhp remap.
I know someone who rebuilds injectors btw (wink wink)

I would advise against this.

ECU's and CEM's are VIN typed by Volvo. When and if you need to plug into a Volvo DiCE system it might flag several VIN's:

1) The VIN logged by Volvo that the second hand ECU was installed into
2) Your vehicle VIN

Any future s/w updates from the Volvo servers will not be possible after this stage.

I already put a stainless from cat back, that wouldn't trouble it would it?
well this has all been a n eye opener for me .. for the price of all the mods i would need to do to get near 300bhp I could buy a lot better car. it does seem that you must love your volvo to commit to the performance route, my mate who had my old one is buzzing because its faster than my new one and by quite a bit too and that didn't cost much to get more bhp as it was so simple to work on.

If yours is the post facelift 2.4 T5, a simple remap will see it clear of 300bhp, I call that a bargain considering the power gain per £.

Saying that, if I spent 600 quid on my 1.3 automatic starlet, it'll do the 1/4 mile in under 14 seconds lol.
But it won't do it while carrying an Ikea kitchen in the boot

And no, a catback system won't annoy it at all.
