Default Oil Filter

Do you folks use Volvo oil filters, or pattern ones, eg Champion or Fram? 850 Estate 2.5 10V.

Hi ya,

You will start something here now :-)

Occasionally I use the Champion ones they sell at Halfords as the have the non-retrun valve built in,when they do my oil change with Mobil 1. I normally buy 4 to 6 Volvo ones for a year at our national meet as they sell for around 4 to 5 quid each. They are made by Mann if i recall correctly.

The reason i buy so many is that i actually change my oil filter half way between oil changes around 3k miles if the oil doesn't look like coffee and i am not doing running-around-town type driving.

Thanks, I wouldn't use one that didn't have an anti drain valve, at the end of the day, I passed a Volvo dealer, and got a couple of filters. Why skimp, when the car has had Mobil 1 since new?
Just hoping my filter clamp thingy has room to get in the corner.

Hi ya,

If you put them on yourself you will be able to undo them by hand. Unfortunately i normally have to use a screwdriver through the filter if they are fitted at halfords, with the corresponding mess on my hands :-(

Ps. how are you are charter member then with 40 posts ?

Mark.

Charter Member, no idea, must be a computer glitch. Incidentally one of the easiest cars I've ever changed the oil on.
