Whether you run 280mm or 302mm depends on whether your 850 was subject to the "police upgrade".

The Standard discs are 280mm they look kinda standard and have about an inch clearance between the caliper and a 16" wheel. The 302mm discs and calipers FILL the wheel. You will probably want to measure to be absolutely sure.

Regards,

Phil :)

I am wanting to change my front brake disks on my S70 T5 shortley. Is it possible to fit the larger disks on a 'standard' or non police car without any other modification, and would it give any braking advantage?
Any views would be welcome.

Hi
Answer to 2 questions 1st a 1995 is most likely to have 280mm disc,s the easiest way to check is if the back plates are larger than the disc,s then you have 280mm disc,s
2nd question you can only fit 302mm disc,s if you buy, steal or scrounge the modified bracket (volvo call them braces)to move the calipher out from the hub.you also must have 16" wheels fitted. Some police T5,s were modified by a dealer fitted upgrade and with a lot of luck you my find some old stock. The later V70 T5,s also had 302mm disc,s fitted.ALL OTHER PARTS ARE THE SAME (except disc,s) I obtained my brackets from a scrap police S70 Alan Beal

Hi ya,

I would fit the 302mm if i could and it takes longer to travel the full 360' so giving you more braking area.

The braces mentioned i replaced lasy year mysefl and are not that expensive new, about £14 quid each. If you are a perfectionist you will need two new caliper mounting bolts that normally come with new rotors from volvo. If you go after market you need to buy them. The other thing to do is put super glue where the old red glue mark was.

Forgot to say if you go for the larger rotor there is no need to change the caliper just the brace.

Mark.

Was this price for the braces from Volvo or a breakers? I saw on a previous posting that they were around £100 each from a dealer!

When you say rotor are you refering to the disk itself?

Thanks for the help,

Adam

Here in the US, its about $70 for one "bracket" from the dealer. IPD sells the upgrade kit here for about $400! It includes rotors, pads, brace and bolts. But its certainly much cheaper if you put it together yourself.

Hi all,

Dug up my old invoices and i paid £13.15 + vat each for my new braces to replace my old corroded ones. The part number for the standard ones are V08251156. I renewed one caliper bolt as the head had gone and this was £6.11 + vat, p/n 03342541.

Is the price you are being quoted for two bracekets plus new bolts?

Mark very confused.
