Default (!) warning On dash

Hi everyone , recently there is a (!) warning marker come up on the dash it comes and goes every so often, after having a look in the handbook it says the brake fluid is low but when I've checked it the fluid level is fine , could it have anything to the brake pads or discs ? They are getting low and I will have them changed before the end of January but I just want to make certain what it could be .

Normally it will come up when the brake fluid is low. Especially when you are cornering. if however your brake fluid level is fine, then it might be possible that the white floaty thing in the middle of the brake fluid reservoir is sticking due to dirt accumulating in the area.. Is your brake fluid fresh? Yiu can use a small stick or screwdriver to check if the float is moving freely up and down

Have a read of This one from a last year, apparently they sell bubbles to put back in to sunken floats.......

I had that a couple of years ago and it was a low fluid level.

I have this issue.

Now it is a strange one. Last winter all of sudden the brake fluid light came on. I topped it up and a couple of weeks later it came on again. I thought maybe I had a leak so I checked everywhere, as Farr as I could and nothing. It did it a couple more times and then everything was fine. All summer not so much as a flicker from the light.

Now the temp has dropped again it has come back on, I topped it up a couple of weeks ago and looked for a leak but it has come back on.

When I say topped up I am literally talking a thimble full and it goes out. The fluid is all but on the line but adding the tiniest amount makes the light go out.

What I find really strange is that it only seems to do it in the winter? If I had a leak I would expect the level to drop noticeably and do it all the time.

in colder weather would the increased density / reduced pressure of air in the air bubble cause it to sink lower in the fluid?

Alternatively, have you had an ABS kick-in recently?I ask as mine did it yesterday while slowing for a junction. If you have a pinhole leak in a brake hose, its possible the violent pumping of ABS would cause fluid loss where normal service braking wouldnt - and ABS works a lot harder in midwinter and barely makes itself known to sensible drivers in summer

Not had the ABS kick in AFAIK. In fact I do not recall the ABS every kicking in on the Volvo. That is probably due to the fact I drive my car like an old lady........but when I am on my bike......that is when the speed demon kicks in
