Water leaking
Help please wanted
I am going on holiday this Friday 24/07/04 to the South of france in an October 2000 V40 1.8iSE but for the last four days I have noticed a pool of water being left underneath the engine, the water is just clear no antifreeze in it. I ignored it at first thinking it was condensation from the air conditioning, a chap at work said that this was normal for cars fitted with air conditioning. but on closer inspection I have now noticed the water is actually leaking from a pipe that enters the bulkhead, the pipe is open ended and just drips water onto the floor, Is this supposed to happen ? any thoughts are suggestions would be very much appreciated. |

RE: Water leaking
I think your friend is correct about condensate dripping from the air-con system. If it was coloured water then it would possibly be a leak from the cooling system, since anti-freeze should be present all year round. You would also notice a lower water level in the expansion tank.
Try a journey with the air-con switched off and then check to see if there are any leaks. From memory, the condensate drain tube is an L-shaped black pipe protruding from the front passenger side of the bulkhead, just above the steering rack bellows. Hope this puts your mind at rest. Cheers. |
